Trustees OK changes, not incumbents

Penn State trustees have approved reforms to university governance following the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal and learned two incumbents on the university's governing board were voted out by alumni.

The changes approved by the board include removing the state's governor and the university president as voting trustees.

A board member and a board vice chair lost their seats Friday after facing vocal opposition from critics angered by the board's actions since the scandal broke in late 2011. Winning election were candidates endorsed by an alumni group critical of university leadership.

Many alumni are upset about the firing of football coach Joe Paterno days after former assistant coach Sandusky was arrested.

Sandusky was convicted of abusing several boys and is in prison but maintains his innocence.
