A top high school football recruit's path to college stardom hit a serious bump after he was expelled for a series of inappropriate comments posted on Twitter.
Yuri Wright, a highly touted cornerback out of Don Bosco Preparatory High School in Ramsey, N.J., was kicked out of the private, all-boys Catholic school Wednesday.
Wright, a senior, published multiple posts over a period of several months deemed racist and sexual in nature, The Star-Ledger reported. His Twitter account has since been deleted.
"He's a good kid and I think he has a bright college future and I wish him the best of luck," Don Bosco coach Greg Toal told The Star-Ledger. "There is no question Don Bosco had to do what it had to do."
Screen shots taken of Wright's account before it was deleted showed a handful of messages, including one post in which he wrote, "Its like I need p**** everyday to be satisfied going to school with a whole bunch of guys sucks I be in class day dreaming bout the craziest s***...."
In another captured message, Wright said, "Yo my pops just drove by and splash some jewish lady with mad water…."
It was not immediately clear whether Wright's social media mishaps would hurt his chances of landing at a top-flight football school. But Michigan, who was Wright's dream school, according to one analyst, has reportedly dropped its recruitment bid for the six-foot-two, 180-pound defensive back.
Wright's recruiting trip to Ann Arbor, which was scheduled for this weekend, was canceled, according to FOX Sports Detroit.
According to Scout.com, Wright's potential college destinations include Colorado, Georgia, Notre Dame and Rutgers.
"It's unfortunate. Kids don't realize that everything they say can be heard everywhere these days," Don Bosco Prep defensive coordinator Danny Marangi said. "They have to realize that they're held to a higher standard, not like the average student."
