Tide add running back/track star to 2015 class; eligible immediately

Heading into the season with only three healthy scholarship running backs is never an ideal situation in the SEC. Well the Alabama Crimson Tide have alleviated that concern just before fall camp begins with the late addition of Xavian Marks to their 2015 recruiting class.

Xavian's brother Torin will also be joining the team, but as a walk-on receiver/defensive back, their father Clyde told AL.com

"He's coming on a scholarship and as of right now, it's football, but I'm sure he probably will run track," Clyde said of Xavian. "He's a 10.3 (second) 100 (meter dash) kid. If they give him the opportunity to run, he probably will run track also."

The brothers had reportedly been committed to New Mexico State but never officially signed with the Aggies as they waited out their options closer to home.

"We were already in ties with Alabama," Clyde Marks said. "We had other schools that we were in contact with. That's kind of how it happened. We had 'Bama, we had LSU, we had Arkansas and there were other schools. It was pretty much a decision that came to the end and they liked the school."

While Xavian will likely see little action on the field in 2015, as long as the running backs above him on the depth chart don't go down, the depth at the position had become dire following a recent string of defections from the program.

However, don't rule out Xavian making an impact in the return game, as a player gifted with his level of speed could prove to be too valuable to keep off special teams.
