Think 2014 was big? The party might only be beginning

The College Football Playoff selection pulled the carpet out from under the Horned Frogs' national championship hopes, no doubt about it.

How could TCU drop from No. 3 in the penultimate poll, whip Iowa State in the regular-season finale by 52 points and then fall three spots in the next poll? It still doesn't make any sense.

Frogs fans haven't forgotten. But they also haven't forgotten the thrill ride that came before that, the home win over what was then a highly ranked Oklahoma team, the heartbreaking loss at Baylor and the 82 points they hung on Texas Tech.

Now the path seems to be clear for a run to the playoff. Heisman Trophy candidate Trevone Boykin is back at quarterback and he was quite an arsenal of playmakers around him. The defense has to be restocked, but that typically hasn't been a problem for coach Gary Patterson.

So if you think the big Peach Bowl blowout of Mississippi was cause for a party, well, the party for TCU football and its fans might only just be beginning.
