The national scene: Baylor, TCU look to leave no doubt

Baylor coach Art Briles knows of one way to clear up the college football playoff picture.

“If we’d have 12-0, there’s no doubt,” he said. “If we line up and we win 12 games this year, we’re going to be in the final four. I think you can put that in ink.”

Baylor and TCU, Big 12 co-champions, both went 11-1 last season, but were on the outside looking in when the four-team playoff was announced. The Frogs then took out their frustration on Mississippi in the Peach Bowl.

It’s a new season, but the Big 12 title picture centers around the Bears and Frogs again. TCU returns record-setting quarterback Trevone Boykin. Baylor must replace QB Bryce Petty, but has several weapons, including wideout Corey Coleman.

Circle Nov. 27. That’s when Baylor visits Fort Worth in a game that could decide a Big 12 title and a spot in the college playoff.

“We don’t want to just be in the playoff,” Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said. “I think our league has always been about aspiring to win national championships.
