Texas youth team in anthem protest ends season early

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) A Southeast Texas youth football team has ended its season early after a player protest during the national anthem caused strife among coaches and parents.

After last month's protest in which players kneeled during the anthem to protest social injustice, the Beaumont Bulls team for 11 and 12-year-olds received publicity and threatening messages.

The Beaumont Enterprise (http://bit.ly/2dAsPBk ) reported Tuesday that disagreements among coaches, parents and the team's executive board also developed.

The team's board removed the coach, prompting some players to stop coming to games.

Seterria Anderson, a parent who's the team's executive board president, says the team disbanded because it didn't have enough players.
