Texas medical staff says quarterback David Ash will not play next week against No. 11 Oklahoma because of lingering effects of a head injury.

Ash has missed part or all of the last four games Texas (3-2, 2-0) has played and didn't play in the Longhorns' 31-30 win Thursday night at Iowa State. He was first injured Sept. 7 in the fourth quarter of Texas' 40-21 loss at BYU. He returned to play the first half against Kansas State on Sept. 21 (check) but did not return for the second half.

Senior Case McCoy will get his third start of the season against the Sooners next weekend in their annual rivalry game in Dallas.

Texas head athletic trainer Kenny Boyd announced his decision Saturday to keep Ash sidelined.
