Texas Football Recruiting 2017: Updated Commitment List
An updated list of the athletes that have committed to playing at Texas in 2017.
When Tom Herman took over as Texas football head coach, he inherited a handful of recruits from Charlie Strong, who got fired after the 2016 season. Herman has since brought in JUCO kicker Joshua Rowland and has made offers to three others, all of whom are committed to other schools.
With National Signing Day still a few months away, there is time for Herman and Co. to fill out the rest of the recruiting class for 2017. This could include a run at running back Eno Benjamin and defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson. Both have offers from the Longhorns, according to 247Sports.com.
Could those two players and others join the already-committed class for 2017? Here’s an ongoing updated list of who has agreed to go to Texas for the next season, via 247Sports. This is as of December 18, 2016:
So far, this class is full of players on the defensive side of the ball, something that Texas struggled with in 2016. They allowed the 27th most passing yards out of 128 teams (3,102), so that may be a reason for multiple cornerbacks being added along with a few seniors graduating. Multiple defensive linemen are set to leave for graduation as well, which may point to Carson and Graham being future Longhorns.
Herman and Texas will continue to shape this recruiting class as the weeks go on. There may be a handful of high school and JUCO athletes that join the program sooner than later. Who could that end up being, though?
