Texas A&M player charged with assault involving girlfriend
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) Texas A&M football player Josh Walker was arrested on charges of assault causing injury to his girlfriend and interfering with an emergency request for assistance, police said Saturday.
Walker, 20, a junior linebacker from Gilmer in East Texas, was booked into the jail Friday night. He was held on $9,000 bond.
College Station Police Cpl. Matthew Alaniz said Walker pushed his girlfriend during an argument and she was hurt when she fell into a child's rocking chair. When she tried to call 911, Walker taunted her and blocked her from calling, but didn't realize when he grabbed a phone from her that the 911 operator already was on the line and could hear more arguing and struggling.
According to a probable cause statement, the dispatcher could hear the woman crying and telling someone to get off her.
Walker was cooperative when police showed up, Alaniz said. Police said the couple has a child who was not involved in the argument.
Walker immediately was suspended from the football team, the Texas A&M athletic department told the Houston Chronicle (http://bit.ly/2bK1ooW ).
He started four games as a freshman in 2014 and started one game last season.
