Tennessee State beats Jackson State 35-25

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Oshay Ackerman-Carter threw three touchdowns as Tennessee State defeated Jackson State 35-25 in the Southern Heritage Classic in Memphis on Saturday night.

Ackerman-Carter was 15 of 26 for 250 yards. Telvin Hooks ran for 68 yards on 14 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns for the Tigers (2-0).

Ackerman-Carter threw a TD to Patrick Smith early in the first quarter followed by a 7-yard TD run by Hooks and the Tigers up 14-6.

After a Jackson State field goal late in the first quarter and another scoring pass from Ackerman-Carter in the final seconds of the first half, Tennessee State went into the break leading 21-9.

Early in the third quarter, Hooks scored his second TD from 2 yards and Ackerman-Carter found Chris Sanders-McCollum for a 64-yard touchdown play and a 35-18 Tennessee State lead.

LaMontiez Ivy was 24 of 39 for 322 yards for Jackson State (0-2).
