Teen dies after football practice in SC
A rising high school football player collapsed and died after practice in Darlington, SC, WMBF News reported Sunday.
Tyquan Xavier Brantley, 14, was walking off the field with his Lamar High School team Saturday when he collapsed.
He was taken to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead about 7 p.m. local time Saturday night.
The coroner was yet to determine the cause of death, but more details were expected to emerge after an autopsy on Monday or Tuesday.
Brantley reportedly was practicing for about an hour before the collapse and was not wearing any pads. District officials said the players did have access to water at the fields.
"Tyquan was an excellent young man, who worked hard for the game of football," Lamar coach J.R. Boyd said. "I was very excited about Tyquan's future as a Silver Fox. He will be missed by his family and the Silver Fox family."
