TCU co-OC Cumbie says he's declined offer to run Texas offense

AUSTIN, Texas -- TCU co-offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie says he has turned down an offer from Texas to run the Longhorns offense.

Cumbie, who also coaches quarterbacks at TCU, met with Texas coach Charlie Strong for two days this week. Cumbie announced Wednesday he'll stay with the Horned Frogs.

Strong needs to rebuild one of the Big 12's worst offenses after two straight losing seasons. Jay Norvell handled play-calling duties most of the 2015 season after Strong demoted Shawn Watson after the first game.

Cumbie said he seriously considered the Texas offer, but ultimately decided he wanted to stay at TCU, which won its first share of a Big 12 title in 2014.
