Coulter, who was 9 of 22 for 158 yards, connected with Jordan Gush on a 21-yard touchdown for the game's final score. Stony Brook's Conte Cuttino had 18 carries for 73 yards, including 50 in the second half.
The Seawolves (5-4, 4-0 Big South Conference) tied the game at 14 when Arin West returned a fumble 16 yards early in the third quarter.
On Gardner-Webb's next possession, the Runnin' Bulldogs (5-3, 2-1) drove to the Stony Brook 25-yard line where Patrick Hall fumbled.
Gardner-Webb, which fumbled the ball just three times in its previous seven games, lost all four of its fumbles against the Seawolves.

Stan Doolittle was 22 of 37 for 198 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
