Special teams a bright spot for South Carolina

About the only consistent entity within South Carolina's team thus far in 2015 has been its special teams unit.
The punter/kicker duo of Elliott Fry and Sean Kelly is as good as one will find in the SEC. Kelly started off the season with a bang. He called his own number on a punt attempt, and instead ran for a first down once he saw an open alley. Also in the opener versus North Carolina, Kelly made a potential touchdown-saving tackle of a UNC returner. On the season, Kelly has a solid 42.8 yards-per-punt average.
Fry is 6-of-8 on his field goal attempts in 2015. He's made three of his four attempts from beyond 40 yards, including a career-high 51-yard conversion in the loss to Georgia.
Shon Carson has also been a standout in terms of kick return average. A 25.5 yards-per-return average puts him within the top 30 in the country. While South Carolina is struggling on offense, Carson's solid returns at least helps to give the Gamecocks good starting field position.
