Southeastern Louisiana defeats Sam Houston 30-29
Bryan Bennett marched his team 85 yards in six plays for the winning touchdown with 36 seconds remaining as Southeastern Louisiana came back to defeat Sam Houston State 30-29 Saturday night and win the FCS second round playoff.
Southeastern Louisiana (11-2) advances to play New Hampshire next week.
Bennett, who finished with 369 total yards and three touchdowns, completed six consecutive passes on the last scoring drive. He hit Jeff Smiley from one yard out for the score, the lead and the victory.
Sam Houston (9-5) jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter. The Lions then scored 17 unanswered points to lead 24-21 at the half.
Sam Houston scored 8 points in the second half. Eric Fieilo sacked Bennett for a safety before Brian Bell rushed for a 2-yard touchdown.
Tim Flanders led the Bearkats with 82 yards rushing.
