South Carolina's Spurrier names Nunez as starting QB vs. UCF

The quarterback carousel at South Carolina continues to spin and spin.
On Tuesday, South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier announced that true freshman Lorenzo Nunez will start at quarterback for the Gamecocks this weekend versus UCF.
Spurrier: "Lorenzo gives us a spark maybe we didn't have in there..I think it is the first true freshman QB I've ever started." #Gamecocks

Spurrier is surely hoping Nunez can bring a bit of a spark to a team in desperate need of one. This past weekend in the 52-20 loss to Georgia, it didn't look as if the Gamecocks even wanted to be on the field. Georgia beat them in every facet, and it wasn't close.
Nunez was one of the few South Carolina players to play well. In his first bit of extended action on the collegiate level, he rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown on only 10 carries. He also went 4 of 5 for 18 yards passing the football.
Nunez's ability to make plays with his legs is likely a big reason as to why he's been signaled as the starter. He's the third starting quarterback Spurrier has trotted out this year. Connor Mitch has been beset by multiple injuries, and Perry Orth was ineffective versus Georgia last weekend.
