Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez was offered the South Carolina job by Gamecocks athletic director Ray Tanner, but didn’t feel right about the offer, two sources told FOX Sports on Saturday night.

On Sunday, former Florida coach Will Muschamp was named the Gamecocks' hire.

Wildcats AD Greg Byrne confirmed Rodriguez declined the job on Twitter, saying, "Great news! @CoachRodAZ did not commit to the offer from S. Carolina. He's an Arizona Wildcat. #BearDown."

The 52-year-old Rodriguez, a former Clemson OC and 2014 winner of the Pac-12 South, mulled over the opportunity on his flight back to Arizona and didn’t feel right about the situation; he has opted to stay with the Wildcats, feeling he has more work to do in Tucson.

Rodriguez had, along with several other coaches, interviewed in Charlotte, NC, on Friday. He was the last candidate to interview.

The 44-year-old Muschamp was 28-21 at UF and led the Gators to a Sugar Bowl in his first season before being fired last year.
