Showers helps UTEP shut out UTSA 34-0
SAN ANTONIO (AP) UTEP hadn't won a conference game on the road since 2012, but Jameill Showers changed that in a hurry, rolling out to his right and finding Jaquan White down the sideline for a 75-yard scoring pass on UTEP's fifth play of the game, boosting the Miners to a 34-0 shutout of UTSA Saturday night.
It was White's first touchdown. Showers hit Aaron Jones on a screen pass that went 40 yards for a 14-0 lead in the first 12 minutes as UTEP (4-3, 2-1 Conference USA) held San Antonio (2-6, 1-3) to a single first down in each half.
Showers finished 12-for-18 passing for 191 yards. Jones rushed for 86.
Disaster struck UTSA on back-to-back turnovers after halftime, resulting in 10 UTEP points, including a pick-6 for UTEP's first defensive TD since 2011. It was also UTEP's first shutout since 2005.
UTSA was outgained 351-70 in total offense.
