Fabian Truss ran for 180 yards and two touchdowns to rally Samford past Southern Conference foe Western Carolina 25-21 Saturday.

After both teams struggled in the first half, Truss carried three times for 68 yards for the Bulldogs (4-0, 2-0) on their first possession of the third quarter, finishing the drive with a 25-yard touchdown run for a 7-7 tie. Cameron Yaw's field goal made it 10-7.

Western Carolina (1-3, 0-2) regained the lead, 21-10, entering the fourth quarter on two Eddie Sullivan touchdown passes, 14 yards to Conner Orr and 8 yards to Jacoby Mitchell.

Andy Summerlin found Riley Hawkins for a 20-yard Samford touchdown and Kelvin Clay for a two-point conversion to make it 21-18 early in the fourth quarter, and Truss provided the go-ahead score from 1 yard out with 5 minutes left.

Yaw's extra point gave him 257 career points, breaking Michael O'Neal's 20-year school record.
