Sam Houston St. 38, McNeese St. 14
Leading 14-7 at halftime, Sam Houston State scored 21 points in the third quarter and routed McNeese State 38-14 Saturday to go 7-0 and take control in the Southland Conference.
Sophomore Tim Flanders ran for 162 yards and two touchdowns, his 11th 100-yard rushing game to tie the school mark. The Bearkats (7-0, 4-0) won at McNeese State (3-4, 2-2) for just the second time in 13 meetings. Sam Houston State had lost six straight overall to the Cowboys and hadn't won at McNeese State since 1999.
An overwhelming second half by the Bearkats broke it open. Flanders broke a 55-yard scoring run on the first play after the break. He had another 55-yard run and a 50-yard shovel pass from quarterback Brian Bell, who passed for one touchdown and scored another.
McNeese State had just 64 yards rushing and surrendered six sacks and a blocked punt.
