Rutgers' Rettig plans to head home to refine QB craft
Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood told reporters Hayden Rettig was "a little bit" behind Chris Laviano in the Scarlet Knights quarterback duel when spring came to an end.
So what does Rettig, a transfer from LSU who sat out last season, plan to do about that?
"I just have to keep working; that's how I see it," Rettig told NJ.com. "If I just keep doing what I'm doing, keep putting in the hours, you can't stop something from happening."
He admitted he has "no shot" he can be the player he wants to be after two years without game action, something that was reflected in his spring game passing line (4 for 7 for 37 yards), but figures a trip back to his home state of California to continue refining his skills with his QBs coach there should help this summer.
"I need to be at 100 percent," Rettig said. "I can't be like I was tonight or any other practice. I just have to keep working and understand what we're trying to do on offense."
