Riding the SEC carousel: Thompson's latest stop is at South Carolina

At this point in his career, new South Carolina coach Lance Thompson could double as a navigation system for the Southeastern region of the United States.
Thompson has made stops at six institutions (Auburn, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, LSU, Central Florida) before coming to Columbia.
Interestingly enough, his coaching responsibilities have been nearly as decorated as his travels. At South Carolina under Will Muschamp, Thompson will act as both the assistant head coach and the defensive line coach. At previous schools, he's functioned as a tight ends coach, outside linebackers coach, defensive ends coach, and as a recruiting coordinator.
Thompson's vast collection of connections all across the region makes him a dynamite recruiter. Steve Spurrier and his former staff was criticized at times for a lack of recruiting prowess. With Thompson in tow, it shouldn't be a problem.
Thompson's extensive experience on this level -- coupled with his ability to bring in and develop talent -- makes him a potentially very good hire for Muschamp.
