Georgia dismissed freshman defensive back Shaq Jones on Sunday, less than two hours after he was arrested on a shoplifting charge, according to multiple reports.

Jones, who had not played yet this season, was charged with theft by shoplifting $43 worth of merchandise from an Athens area Walmart on Sunday. Athens-Clarke-County police arrested him and released him on $1,500 bail at 4:53 p.m. on Sunday.

Head coach Mark Richt issued a statement saying: "We have certain expectations and standards that we require of all our players. When those expectations and standards are not met, the opportunity to be a part of our program is sacrificed."
