Report: Michigan's Stonum gets probation
Suspended Michigan wide receiver Darryl Stonum was sentenced to two years' probation Friday in connection with a May 6 drunk driving arrest, the Detroit Free Press reported.
Stonum, 21, also received a one-year suspended jail term, and will avoid incarceration if he meets the terms of his probation.
The judge suggested to Stonum that he looks for a job because the sentence also includes nearly $2,000 in fines, court costs and fees.
Under the terms of his probation, Stonum must attend treatment, submit to daily Breathalyzer tests, wear an alcohol-monitoring device, and undergo one to three drug tests per week. He also cannot drive for 90 days.
The May 6 arrest was the senior's second for drunk driving since arriving at Michigan in 2008. His first arrest was in Sept. 2008 during his freshman season and he received a year of probation in that case.
Following the latest arrest, coach Brady Hoke suspended Stonum indefinitely. On Thursday, Stonum was cited by police for driving with a suspended license and faces a June 23 court date on that charge.
The Texas native caught 49 balls for 633 yards and four touchdowns last season for the Wolverines.
