The University of Georgia's athletic director has resigned after a DUI arrest last week, according to multiple media outlets.
The school will officially announce Athletic Director Damon Evans' resignation on Monday, WSB-TV reports.
Sources told WSB-TV that UGA President Michael Adams asked for and received Evans resignation after the atletic director was pulled over Wednesday night and charged with a DUI. He refused a breathalyzer test and spent the night in the city jail.
The passenger in his car, 28-year old Courtney Fuhrmann, was charged with disorderly conduct after failing to ignore requests by police to stay in the car after Evans was pulled over.
Evans, a 40-year-old married father of two children, said he "failed miserably" during a press conference Thursday to address the arrest.
"My behavior and my actions are not indicative of what we teach our student athletes," he said. "My actions have put a black cloud over our storied program."
Evans became the Southeastern Conference's first black athletic director when he took over the position at UGA in 2004.
