For two years now, Penn State has tried to distance itself from Joe Paterno and the turmoil cast over State College at the end of his tenure.
The university tore down Paterno's statue and found a new football coach, who began by putting names on the Nittany Lions' jerseys and proclaiming a new time had begun.
The Bill O'Brien era has been mostly accepted at Penn State.
For whatever reason, however, there's a faction of Penn Staters who don't want to leave Paterno behind. So we get displays like Saturday, when some fans erected a vigil for Paterno's vacated wins.
