Prairie View 40, Alcorn St. 14
Jerry Lovelocke threw for two touchdowns and the Prairie View defense forced three turnovers and held Alcorn State to 99 total rushing yards in a 40-14 win Saturday.
The Panthers (5-5, 5-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference), whose win kept them tied for first in the league, rushed for 223 yards with three different running backs notching a touchdown. Le'Darryae Grover (95 yards), Fred Anderson (45 yards) and Courtney Brown (39 yards) led the rushing attack and all scored on the ground for the Panthers.
Terrance Lewis put Alcorn State (2-7, 1-7) ahead 7-6 after the opening quarter thanks to a 92-yard kickoff return for a score, but it was all Prairie View from there.
Lovelocke, who passed for 164 yards with an interception, threw touchdowns of 22 and 10 yards during a span of 27 straight points by the Panthers. Chris King added a 65-yard interception return for a score.
