During halftime of the South Carolina-Vanderbilt game on Saturday, the Gamecocks band paid tribute to the state's first responders.
The band created an outline of the state of South Carolina, with a heart in the middle of the formation. The gesture honored those who have battled the effects of devastating flooding that hit the greater Columbia area a few weeks ago.

First responders have rescued those trapped by floodwaters and worked to repair infrastructure and get clean water flowing again.
As we've seen before, a sporting event can be a way of uniting people and showing solidarity with those who have been through disasters.
