Northwestern State beats Lamar 37-28

Zach Adkins threw two second-half touchdowns and Northwestern State beat Lamar 37-28 on Saturday.

Northwestern State (5-5, 2-3 Southland Conference) trailed 21-17 at the half but took a 23-21 lead with just over eight minutes remaining in the third quarter with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Adkins to Daniel Taylor.

Adkins then threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Louis Hollier Jr. early in the fourth to put the Demons up 30-21. Adkins finished with 250 passing yards.

Lamar (4-6, 1-4) cut the lead to 2 with a 1-yard touchdown run by Payton Ploch with 9:31 to play. But De'Mard Llorens made it a two-possession game with a 55-yard touchdown run with 1:16 left, extending Northwestern State's lead to 37-28.

The Demons held Lamar to just 5 yards rushing on 31 attempts.
