Northwestern running back Arby Fields is leaving the team and plans to transfer.
In a statement released Thursday, coach Pat Fitzgerald says the Wildcats are ''disappointed'' and calls Fields ''an outstanding young man.''
A sophomore, Fields rushed for 480 yards and six touchdowns while catching 21 passes over two seasons. He ran for a career-high 96 yards against Illinois State in September.
Fields also was a starting center fielder for the baseball team.
