North Texas freshman wide receiver Josh Rake has died from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
The university said in a statement that Rake died Friday, a day after he was injured.
The 20-year-old Rake joined the team in September as a walk-on. He played for North Texas head coach Todd Dodge as a freshman and sophomore when Dodge coached at Southlake Carroll High School. Rake graduated from Southlake in 2009.
North Texas will wear helmets with stickers honoring Rake in its game against Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday night.
