Rivals.com 4-star lineman Darius Whitfield pledged his services to the program on Tuesday afternoon. The Alabama native opted to attend school in Columbia over the likes of Arizona State, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Missouri, and Ole Miss.
Garnering the commitment of Whitfield is a massive coup for the Gamecocks. Based upon the competition they beat out for the versatile athlete, one can see how talented Whitfield is.
At 6'1", 268 pounds, the St. Paul's High School prep can play at either defensive tackle or offensive guard. Depending on depth, it'll likely determine which side of the ball he'll start out at.
Regardless, it's a massive pickup for a program in need of some positivity.
