WACO, Texas (AP) That dominating Baylor defense is still getting sacks long after the season opener.
School officials sent out corrected stats Tuesday that added a record-tying ninth sack for the 10th-ranked Bears in their 45-0 win over SMU in the opener two days earlier.
Defensive tackle Beau Blackshear got the additional sack for the final play of the third quarter. That was initially ruled a team fumble for SMU and a tackle for loss. SMU quarterback Neal Burcham dropped the snap before recovering and going back to pass. Blackshear tackled him for a 12-yard loss.
A review of the game tape and the NCAA rule book confirmed that Blackshear should have also been credited with a sack. Baylor also had nine sacks in a 1983 game against UTEP.
