Nebraska Football: Keith Williams' Trial Pushed Back By Coach

Nebraska football wide receiver’s coach Keith Williams had his third offense DUI trial pushed back about a month on Monday.

The Nebraska football coach’s lawyer filed a motion last week that asked for the court date to be pushed back, citing the fact that the defense and the prosecutors couldn’t get on the same page when it came to discovery.

It appears that the state is on board with this motion, since they didn’t object. Because there was basic agreement on this issue, Lancaster County Judge Timothy Phillips continued the hearing to Nov. 21 according to the Lincoln Journal Star.

While there doesn’t appear to be anything beyond the fact that the Nebraska football coach’s defense team wants to make sure they get everything they can, the timing is at least interesting. It’s a safe bet Williams wasn’t wanting to have to go through a trial, even it lasted just one day, the week of the Wisconsin game.

You also have to wonder if there might eventually be a few more motions in order to push the eventual trial date back just a bit longer. With the Iowa game being the last regular season game for the Huskers, it would make sense to get that pushed back just a bit more.

It’s a safe bet the Nebraska football staff would rather not have to deal with their players worrying about what their position coach is going to do in front of a judge. Of course, it’s also a safe bet the Nebraska football team would rather not have to worry about any of this at all, in a season that has been storybook on the field.
