(STATS) - North Dakota State continued to call quarterback Carson Wentz's playing status a "game-time decision" on Thursday, a day before the Bison host Richmond in an FCS playoff semifinal.
The fifth-year senior has been sidelined since suffering a broken scaphoid in his throwing wrist against South Dakota on Oct. 17, but he has practiced the last two weeks with the hope of returning to the active roster. The NDSU captain was the Most Outstanding Player of last season's FCS national championship when the Bison won for the fourth straight year.
The third-seeded Bison (11-2) have won seven straight since redshirt freshman Easton Stick replaced Wentz as the starter.
Wentz, an early round prospect for the 2016 NFL draft, has thrown for 1,454 yards and 16 touchdowns and two interceptions this season. Stick is considered the better runner and has combined to rush and pass for 16 touchdowns with only two turnovers while showing poise as the leader of the offense.
NDSU is hosting a seventh-seeded Richmond squad that is 10-3 and coming off a quarterfinal-round win at second-seeded Illinois State, which shared the Missouri Valley Football Conference title with the Bison.
The Richmond-NDSU winner will play Sam Houston State or No. 1 seed Jacksonville State in the Jan. 9 national final in Frisco, Texas.
