N. Arizona 27, Sacramento St. 26
Zach Bauman rushed for 246 yards and two touchdowns and Dan Pela blocked a potential game-tying extra-point attempt with 4:53 remaining as Northern Arizona beat Sacramento State 27-26 on Saturday night.
Bauman's second TD, a 1-yard run, gave the Lumberjacks (3-5, 1-5 Big Sky) a 27-20 lead with 8:50 left. The Hornets (3-5, 2-4) responded with an eight-play, 73-yard drive to what they hoped would be the tying score on Bryan Hilliard's 1-yard run.
But Pela, a defensive lineman, got in the way.
Hilliard, who came into the game with 548 yards rushing on the season, was held to 16 yards on nine carries. Tommy Edwards and Garrett Safron, in their second game as alternating quarterbacks in place of injured Sacramento State starter Jeff Fleming (calf), combined for 15 completions for 259 yards and two touchdowns.
Cary Grossart was 16 of 30 for 167 yards with a touchdown and interception for Northern Arizona.
