More Bad News For LSU: Top Receiver Commits Visiting Elsewhere

With the announcement the LSU Tigers would not be playing this Saturday’s game against Florida, LSU’s momentum and chances of getting back in conference championship talks took a huge hit.

If one dose of bad news wasn’t enough, here’s some more for you. LSU’s 4-star wide receiver commits Mannie Netherly and Jhamon Ausbon, will be making visits to other schools this weekend.

Netherly is the 32nd best player at this position in the upcoming 2017 class. He is now expected to visit both Texas and Texas A&M this fall.

He is a 6-foot-2 receiver from Crosby, Texas, and is considered to be one of the firmest commitments in LSU’s class. He has great relationships with some of the staff and family in the area, but as usual, when a coach is fired, recruits explore their options.

Meanwhile, Ausbon will be at Texas A&M, a school he considered before choosing LSU. Ausbon will be joined by his high school quarterback Kellen Mond, who is one of the top QB prospects in the class. Mond is, of course, committed to A&M.

Ausbon is a fairly critical piece to this year’s recruiting class for the Tigers. As the number 11 wide receiver in the nation this season, he is a guy LSU needs in Baton Rouge next season. Texas A&M is a huge threat to steal talented offensive players.

Ausbon was at LSU’s 42-7 victory against Missouri last week, which is a big break for the Tigers, considering how poor they’ve been on that side of the ball in every other outing. The 4-star does have a great relationship with Dameyune Craig and has ties to Louisiana, so there’s a good chance he remains committed to LSU, but the visits are still concerning.

Both players have said great things about the new staff and program, but both are visiting some pretty big schools; ones that they have ties to. LSU needs to keep as much talent locked up as possible heading into a new era, and losing these guys would be a huge blow.
