Mississippi State starting guard Tobias Smith is out for the season after tearing ligaments in his left knee during Thursday's 19-6 loss to LSU.

Smith, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound junior from Columbus, Miss., was injured in the first half of Thursday's game. Team spokesman Joe Galbraith confirmed Smith is expected to miss the rest of the year, and has a partially torn ACL.

After Smith's injury, senior Quentin Saulsberry moved from center to guard and freshman Dillon Day came into the game to play center. The Bulldogs are already without starting left tackle James Carmon, who injured his knee in last Saturday's loss to Auburn.

The revamped offensive line struggled in its first outing. LSU's defense had 15 tackles for a loss, including four sacks.
