Injuries plagued the Spartans all of 2015 but this is a new season and the Spartans are hoping to avoid what happened last year. Guys like Vayante Copeland, Madre London, RJ Williamson and even Connor Cook went down with injuries last season, hindering the Spartans throughout the year.
What do the injury reports for both teams on Saturday look like?
Michigan State: LB Jon Reschke (hand), probable; LB Ed Davis (knee), probable; OL Dennis Finley (leg), probable; WR R.J. Shelton (hamstring), probable; WR Felton Davis III (leg), probable
Notre Dame: WR Torii Hunter Jr. (concussion), probable; TE Alize Jones (academics), out; CB Shaun Crawford (Achilles), out; CB Devin Butler (foot, suspension), out; CB Nick Watkins (arm), out; RB Justin Brent (foot), out
As you can see, the Fighting Irish have been hit the hardest by injuries but the Spartans have a handful of guys who are ailing. If Reschke and Davis play Saturday, the defense could be tough for the Irish to move the ball on. Also, Shelton and Davis III will be crucial to the offense.
Let’s hope injuries don’t effect either side because the rivalry is always better when Michigan State and Notre Dame are both at full strength.
