Michiah Quick Dismissed From Sooner Football Team
Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops announced at his weekly press conference on Monday that junior Michiah Quick is no longer on the team.
Quick, who was converted from a wide receiver to cornerback on defense after last season, played in five games in 2016 before suffering a knee injury in the game this season with Texas. He has been out of action since that time.
Stoops said on Monday that the junior from Fresno, Calif., was “coming along” with his rehabilitation from a sprained MCL but “he no longer is going to be with the team,” the Sooner head coach said. Stoops would not elaborate on the dismissal, other than to acknowledge that it had to do with team rules.
In five games this season, Quick recorded 12 tackles from his cornerback position and broke up three passes. He was the defender on the highlight-reel touchdown catch that Ohio State receiver Noah Brown caught on Quick’s back with his arms wrapped around the Sooner defender while falling to the ground in the Oklahoma loss to the Buckeyes earlier this season.
Quick was ranked by Rivals as the No. 4 athlete in the country in the 2014 recruiting class. The Sooners recruited him as a wide receiver. He played in all 13 games as a freshman in the 2014 season, recording 25 catches for 237 yards and a touchdown. In 2015, he made nine receptions in 12 games for 103 receiving yards.
Stoops said the former four-star recruit would be allowed to complete his rehabilitation from the knee injury even though he is no longer on the team.
