Meyer sees a different Miller in offseason work

Now that Braxton Miller has cleared up his plans for the fall, how is he looking?

Pretty good to his coach, Urban Meyer.

“I see a little more focus than I saw (earlier in his career), but that’s not because of the injury; that’s called maturity,” Meyer told the Columbus Dispatch. “The biggest difference I’ve seen this year probably more than ever is just a relentless attention to detail.”

For long-time observers of the program, that is significant. As much as Meyer has gushed about Miller's commitment and what he means to Ohio State for helping carry the team to a 24-2 record in 2012 and '13, the coach has also often spoken about wanting to see Miller be a more demonstrative leader and a hard worker.

By the same token, he has raved about the approach of J.T. Barrett, who might lack some of the physical gifts Miller has but has been described by his head coach as a grinder and former offensive coordinator Tom Herman as a gym rat.

Miller told The Dispatch he has trimmed his body fat to five percent and is using extra time gained from having finished his undergraduate degree to work more with the coaching staff and trainers to develop his body and his game.

While questions remain about when his surgically repaired shoulder will be back to 100 percent, an even better Braxton Miller could be quite a sight for fans of the Scarlet and Gray this fall.
