Memphis takes down Austin Peay 63-0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Paxton Lynch ran for two scores and threw two touchdown passes, leading Memphis to a 63-0 victory over Austin Peay in both teams' season opener.

Memphis' seven rushing touchdowns tied a school record and the Tigers reached their highest point total since 1969.

The Tigers scored less than 3 minutes into the game on a nine-play drive capped by Sam Craft's 2-yard touchdown. They intercepted Trey Taylor's pass on Austin Peay's first possession, leading to Brandon Hayes rushing for a 3-yard score that put Memphis up 14-0.

Lynch rushed for two touchdowns and threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Alan Cross in the second quarter for a 42-0 lead. Freshman Jarvis Cooper carried the ball eight times for 101 yards and one touchdown, all in the fourth quarter.

Austin Peay was held to 30 yards passing. The Governors have not won a game since the 2012 season.
