The attorney for former North Carolina football player Michael McAdoo will appeal the dismissal of McAdoo's lawsuit against the school and NCAA.

Noah H. Huffstetler III said Monday the family wants to continue the case to focus attention on NCAA procedures when enforcing its bylaws and the rights of student-athletes. A Durham judge dismissed the lawsuit last week.

McAdoo sought damages from UNC and the NCAA, alleging ''gross negligence'' when he was declared permanently ineligible based on what his attorneys said was inaccurate information. McAdoo was one of seven players forced to sit out last season amid the NCAA's investigation of improper benefits and academic misconduct.

McAdoo had initially sought reinstatement for the fall semester. He is currently on injured reserve with the NFL's Baltimore Ravens.
