Man in Vandy case turns himself in

A California man indicted on charges of evidence tampering in connection with a rape investigation involving former Vanderbilt football players has surrendered to police.

Nashville police said in a release Friday that Miles Joseph Finley voluntarily traveled from California to Nashville and turned himself in at police headquarters. Bond was set at $10,000.

Finley and Joseph Quinzio were indicted in August on charges of tampering with electronic evidence pertaining to the investigation. According to the release, Quinzio ''continues to go through the legalities of the extradition process.''

Safety Cory Batey, 19 of Nashville, Tenn.; defensive back Brandon Banks, 19, of Brandywine, Md.; receiver Jaborian ''Tip'' McKenzie, 19, of Woodville, Miss.; and tight end Brandon Vandenburg, 20, of Indio, Calif., were indicted Aug. 9 on five counts of aggravated rape each among other charges. All four players were dismissed from the team and suspended from school.

Police said Finley and Quinzio were friends with Vandenburg.

Wide receiver Chris Boyd pleaded guilty Sept. 13 to a misdemeanor for his role in attempting to cover up the incident. Boyd agreed to testify against his four former teammates. Boyd was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days probation, and his record will be cleared if he successfully completes probation.

Boyd also has been dismissed from the team, though he wasn't suspended from school.
