AUBURN, Ala. (AP) Auburn defensive end Car Lawson will remain sidelined indefinitely with a right hip injury.

Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said Tuesday the injury is more serious than was initially believed and that Lawson is ''going to be out for an extended period of time.'' Malzahn said he's hoping Lawson will be able to return this season.

Lawson missed the past two games since being hurt in the first half of the opener with Louisville. He had four tackles, including two for a loss, a sack and two tackles for a loss in less than a half of play.

He missed last season recovering from knee surgery
