LSU plan to use five-star freshman Donte Jackson on both offense and defense
The LSU Tigers are hoping for more consistency from their quarterbacks and an improved Leonard Fournette to help fix an offense that was held to 13 points or fewer in four games last season.
Additional help may be coming from a player not even on the roster this spring.
LSU's running back coach and recruiting coordinator Frank Wilson spoke with The Times-Picayune to discuss the role this season of incoming five-star athlete Donte Jackson.
"He's a young man we are going to count on to be a playmaker for us, as a return man as well as offensively," Wilson said. "He'll start out as a corner for us and primarily play defense, but with that type of speed and excitement, it will be hard pressed not to give him an opportunity to touch the football."
Jackson won back-to-back Louisiana state championships in both the 100m and 200m dashes the past two years.
Wilson suggested some regret from the coaching staff in not utilizing the skill set of Patrick Peterson on offense and special teams during his LSU career, while looking to avoid that mistake with Jackson.
"Pat was a rare breed and that's something we didn't take full advantage of," Wilson continued. "We see (Jackson) as that type of player."
