LSU gets big news as star JC transfer cleared to play

LSU got some big news Monday. Travonte Valentine, a 6-3, 340-pound defensive lineman has been ruled eligible to play immediately and can begin practicing with the team, a source told FOX Sports.

Valentine, a JC transfer, re-joins the Tigers 13 months after he was dismissed for a violation of team rules. He is a powerful but surprisingly nimble big man who is a pure nose tackle and seen as an ideal fit for the Tigers new scheme under DC Dave Aranda. Valentine has uncanny flexibility and quickness off the ball for a man so big. He’s also down about 40 pounds from the 380 he weighed when he first arrived in Baton Rouge.

Valentine’s presence, along with the arrival of 342-pound freshman Ed Alexander and 310-pound Rashard Lawrence, should be a big help for a defense that was outweighed at the line of scrimmage by an average of 50 pounds per man in their three losses to Arkansas, Alabama and Ole Miss. Valentine is expected to begin practicing Wednesday, a source told FOX.
