Louisiana-Lafayette blocked an extra-point attempt with 31 seconds remaining to hold on for a 28-27 victory against a grieving North Texas squad on Saturday night.

Defensive lineman Jermaine Rogers saved the Ragin' Cajuns (2-2, 2-1 Sun Belt) by getting a hand on Trent Deans' PAT try, moments after the Mean Green (1-4, 1-1) scored on a 4-yard touchdown reception by Darius Carey.

North Texas, playing a day after freshman receiver Josh Rake died from injuries suffered in an automobile accident, battled back from a 28-14 deficit and drove 91 yards in 12 plays to Carey's touchdown.

Chris Masson threw for 310 yards and two TDs for Louisiana-Lafayette.
