Liberty crushes Monmouth 45-15
Josh Woodrum led the Liberty offense, completing 13 of 19 for 237 yards and two touchdowns as the Flames scorched Monmouth 45-15 on Saturday.
Woodrum had a spectacular second quarter, connecting with Darrin Peterson for a pair of touchdowns, one from 26 yards and another on an 85-yard bomb. Peterson had just three receptions but led the receiving squad with 124 yards. The Flames ground game, led by Desmond Rice with 50 yards, rounded out the offensive push that totaled 399 yards.
Liberty scored five unanswered touchdowns before Monmouth managed to rally slightly in the fourth quarter with a 42-yard Greg DePugh touchdown pass to Zach Fabel and an Eric Spillane field goal. But it was too little too late.
The Flames defense held Monmouth to just 87 rushing yards and picked off three of starting QB Brandon Hill's passes.
