police investigate shooting death

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. | Police are investigating the fatal shooting by police of a Pace University football player outside a bar.

Mount Pleasant Police Chief Louis Alagno called the Sunday shooting "horrendous."

The victim, Danroy Henry, was a varsity football player and was from Easton, Mass.

Police said unruly patrons had gathered in the bar's parking lot. When an officer knocked on the window of a car parked in a fire lane, police said, the driver sped off. An officer tried stopping the vehicle but it accelerated and he ended up on the hood. The car also grazed another officer.

Both officers fired at the car. Students held a candlelight vigil for Henry Sunday night.

magic sells his lakers shares

LOS ANGELES | Magic Johnson sold his small ownership stake in the Los Angeles Lakers, possibly clearing the way for the Hall of Famer to own a bigger portion of another NBA team in the future.

Johnson bought shares representing about 4.5 percent of the Lakers in June 1994 for a reported $10 million.

Johnson said the sale was strictly a "bittersweet business decision," but the five-time league champion has long been interested in taking a larger ownership role in an NBA franchise.

Johnson, a Michigan native, last month expressed interest in being part of a group buying the Detroit Pistons.
